π squarespace stole my domain and now even though I am using a different host when people type in my domain in their browser address bar it goes to a squarespace error message.

When I signed up for the plan I WANTED it said; pay the yearly fee
total but on a monthly basis would be $20 per Month. I clicked continue and was charged $192.00 for a full year and was never given the monthly option.
So that was a mistake..
Today I have been trying to get an answer to 1 question about the domain name. Each time I type the problem I get a different person that responds and I have to start over..and then a different person and I have to start over again and again..etc. This going on 12 hours now.
There was supposedly a 5 day grace period I was still available for for changing a misspelling in the domain name. Well that ended because now it is the following day and I figured that was why I was getting the run around to make me unavailable for that 5 day grace period change with out having to cancel and resubmit and start the site over from scratch.
THIS IS 24/7 service as advertised..I don't think so..

π NO Squarespace
Squarespace offers you lots of busy time to fix and tweak things but they are slow, so painfully slow at development and implementing new feature and many of them are just shoddy and look nothing like the other services out there.
They promise the moon and deliver something far less. I'm tired of trying to improve a sows ear. Not worth it unless you are paying someone big money to do your sight for you.

(3*) π§ Services: Website Builder ICANN registrarFounded in 2003, Squarespace has grown into one of the leading all-in-one website building platforms, powering millions of websites worldwide. The company originally focused on blogging but has since expanded into ecommerce, scheduling, domains, email marketing, and design tools. Their platform is available in multiple languages (English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese) and supports billing in several currencies (EUR, GBP, USD, DKK, NOK, PLN, SEK).
Square space positions itself as a content management system (CMS) and website builder rather than a traditional host. With one subscription, users can build and host a website, register a domain, sell products, manage content, and access marketing/analytics tools. Their system is based on professionally designed templates and an intuitive drag-and-drop interface that eliminates the need for coding.
The product lineup has remained stable since 2020, with four core website hosting plans. Squarespace has also expanded into Professional Email, especially after acquiring Google Domains in September 2023. By mid-2024, all Google Domains had been migrated to Squarespace, making it an official ICANN registrar and further strengthening its domain business.
Squarespace is widely used by entrepreneurs, small businesses, and creative professionals who value clean design, integrated commerce, and simple site management.
π° Price & Cost
Squarespaceβs plans are considered budget-friendly compared to many direct competitors. The entry-level "Light" plan starts at $17/month, with options for monthly or annual billing (annual plans are cheaper and may include additional perks like a free domain for the first year).
Refund policies are restrictive:
- 14-day free trial is available for new users.
- Annual subscriptions: full refund if canceled within 14 days of the first payment.
- Monthly plans or renewals: non-refundable.
- Domains: 5-day cancellation/refund window after registration; afterwards, domain purchases and renewals are non-refundable.
Compared to Wix, Squarespaceβs pricing is slightly lower on equivalent plans, which makes it appealing to budget-conscious users.
π’ Data Center
Squarespaceβs headquarters is in New York City, with additional offices in Portland (USA) and Dublin (Ireland). Customer data is hosted in Tier III U.S. data centers, while static assets (like images) are distributed through global CDNs to ensure fast page delivery for international visitors.
The company publicly advertises a 99.9% uptime for its managed cloud hosting. However, standard self-serve customers donβt receive an SLA with service creditsβsuch guarantees are usually reserved for enterprise contracts.
βοΈ Customer Support
Squarespace provides 24/7 email support and live chat (MondayβFriday, 4:00 AMβ8:00 PM ET). They deliberately do not offer phone support, positioning their system around written communication and live chat instead.
Additional resources include:
- A Help Center with guides and tutorials.
- Video tutorials and webinars for hands-on learning.
- A community forum where users exchange experiences.
This mix of self-service tools and real-time support helps customers solve issues around website design, ecommerce, and integrations.
π¨ Control Panel
Unlike traditional hosts, Squarespace does not use cPanel or Plesk. Instead, they have built their own integrated dashboard, which merges site management and design into a unified interface.
Main components include:
- Pages & Design: drag-and-drop editor, templates, customization.
- Settings: domains, business info, permissions.
- Commerce Tools: product management, payments (via Stripe), donations, subscriptions.
- Scheduling: handled via Squarespace Scheduling (Acuity).
- Analytics: built-in tools for tracking site performance.
The experience is designed for ease of use and is one of Squarespaceβs biggest advantages.
π― Conclusion
Squarespace is a stable, design-focused website builder with more than two decades of experience. Strengths include a polished drag-and-drop editor, reliable hosting with 99.9% uptime, ecommerce features, integrated scheduling, and domain registration. The acquisition of Google Domains has expanded their registrar presence, making Squarespace a serious competitor to Wix, Weebly, SITE123 and other builders.Weak points include a restrictive refund policy, lack of phone support, and limited backend flexibility compared to open systems like WordPress. However, for entrepreneurs, creatives, and small businesses seeking an all-in-one platform with professional design and easy management, Squarespace remains a highly attractive choice.
A disappointing aspect of Squarespace.com is the oversized website scaling on large monitors, which can make it difficult for visitors to follow the information presented. While the header and footer maintain a balanced ratio, much of the body content across most pages appears poorly optimized in terms of size and layout.

π Squarespace is fantastic.
I'm a designer who uses Squarespace daily, an in-fact Squarespace is THE ONLY CMS I'VE USED for over a year now. In the past year, I've helped over 30 clients ranging from start-ups, and 'mom & pops' to large multi-national corporations. With Squarespace there's a bit of a learning curve, but it really depends what you want to do with the platform. If you want to set-up a site immediately and make it look professional, then you're good to go. If you want a cutting-edge design that different from anyone else's (like what's pictured on the Squarespace Examples pages), then just hire a Squarespace designer to do it for you. It's just common-sense. To have an amazing and original website on ANY PLATFORM takes the help of an experienced designer/developer to help you. As far as hosting pricing, you CANNOT compare Squarespace to your shared C-Panel hosting solution. Nothing can compare.

π The future of blogging and web design.
Ignore the developer trolls that say Squarespace isn't flexible enough. As a normal person (i.e., not developer), Squarespace has been amazing for me. I built the site from scratch by myself. I don't have a great eye for design though, so I worked with a designer to create a completely professional and custom look. My website looks awesome. Business is great. And I NEVER have to worry about getting hacked or my server crashing. Highly recommended for those who want a great site without a great effort.

π Good for advanced intermediate users
First, the support is stellar. I always get a reply in ten minutes. As for the product, the learning curve is steep and then suddenly it just clicks. From then on it's a wonder. The WYSIWYG tools are intuitive and fast. Or I just go in and write full HTML/CSS and I never have to worry about the hosting. Never down. Always fast. Well worth 10 bucks a month.

π No much to say, there were good and passionate, they made money and they began to sink.
It's a poor and simplistic design process. Friendly for the newcomers. Pings are slow and uptime is correct. So many hours lost for nothing: your website is only running on their software.
The worst is when you want to leave: fully proprietary, no full backup, no exportation feature. Sorry, yes, you can export: in .txt
The best way to export from Squarespace: take screenshots of your website and rebuild it somewhere else. Isn't that fun?
If you look for a 3 pages only site, ok. More than that, your work will be lost if you want to switch to somewhere else.
But it's quite expensive for 3 pages.

π VERY VERY VERY Expensve and juts not worth it.
I have years of programing knowledge and there is too little that you can do with these people. It is for the newbs, and even they have the brains (i hope) to kknow that it sucks. With these people you get the bare minimum and not much more than that. The designing of the site is slow too!!! SSOOOO slow. Not reliable either but they wont admit to that.
there are better options.......
